Umkhumbi’s Lapa – The main guest area
Lapa is a South African term for our main lodge area building. It’s spacious, built entirely from locally sourced wood and offers panoramic views over the dense canopy of wooded Sand Forest completely surrounding the lodge. It’s the perfect place to chill out and watch the sun go down after a day exploring one of the many activities on offer in Hluhluwe and further afield.
Your meals are served here, produced by our wonderful Chef Meva. Everything’s freshly prepared and guests often comment on the quality (and quantity) of the cuisine. Check out the food page to whet your appetite!
Spectacular sunsets viewed from our upstairs bar make for relaxing afternoons after your day’s activities. Spend your evening swapping stories around the fire circle chatting and watching the stars or enjoying drinks on the top deck at the bar with other guests.
It’s a hub of activity both in the morning and evening as the team whizz round answering your questions and recommending a dizzying array of things to do.

Only regret was that I only had 3 days to stay here…Excellent bush lodge!

It was exactly what I was looking for. Sizeable room with a nice bathroom, a small balcony outside my bedroom had a nice view of the area behind the lodge. The restaurant and bar has an amazing view and the food served was excellent. Breakfast made to order and some gourmet dinners.

Accomodation was clean, modern, smart, and very private. Food was good “family” fare. Treetop bar with hilarious company made for fantastic sundowners. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Stayed January 2013, travelled with family.
Xelles – Zurich
Best place ever

I absolutely loved my stay at Umkhumbi Lodge. The rooms are beautiful, the view from the bar can be matched by no other, and everyone is so friendly. It feels like home, but with far better weather and amazing animals so close by! The food is delicious, Meva is the best chef ever! I will definitely be coming back to Umkhumbi Lodge and I think everyone should go
