Activities around Hluhluwe and the Elephant Coast area

Umkhumbi Lodge is perfectly positioned as a base to explore all the wonders of the Elephant Coast in KwaZulu-Natal. The bush lodge is near to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, uMkhuze, iSimangaliso and the St Lucia Wetlands. With easy access to the many activities, time spent driving is limited, allowing guests maximum opportunities to  explore the area fully. All activities can be done independently as a self drive tour or as an organised private tour.

  • Turtle tours - experience Africa’s gentle giants - the magnificent Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles nesting on the beach.

  • St Lucia Wetlands (Isimangaliso) is one of South Africa’s World Heritage sites and activities include kayaking, boat cruises and guided walks
  • The Sodwana Bay experience includes scuba diving and deep sea fishing.
  • Tiger fishing - battle the legendary Tiger Fish at Lake Jozini.
  • Scenic flights - experience a birds eye view of the whole region of the Elephant Coast.
  • Elephant encounters at Tembe Elephant Park.
  • Zulu Croc Centre - exhilarating close-up views of crocodiles and snakes at this sanctuary.
  • Night Drive - venture out at night in search of elusive nocturnal creatures.

  • Do a self-drive into Ndumo Game Reserve - one of the lesser known parks in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
  • Venture to one of the neighboring Game farms to go tracking the endangered White Rhino on foot.
