Notice re corona virus

Dear guest,

Most of us are reeling from the sudden and extraordinary changes to our daily lives that the response to the corona virus has had on our global society.
In South Africa the government has banned entry from high-risk countries and is restricting travel and asking for people to self-quarantine. We believe this is the right thing to do to try to halt the spread of this virus into our very vulnerable population.
However, it has greatly affected the travel and tourism trade. Our little family and our employees’ families are 100% reliant on tourism for our income.

The situation now:

Currently we are sitting empty, but not through choice. We would like to continue to operate until such time as travel may be banned.
Our units are self-contained and we are happy to accommodate self-catering guests. We will not be offering meals in the dining area but continental breakfasts at your chalet can be provided.

We would like to reassure you that we are taking the threat of corona virus very seriously. We and our staff are taking precautions against infection and transmission of the virus. Should the staff show any symptoms, they will stay home and we will continue to pay them for as long as we are able to.

Our hygiene is excellent and we will implement stricter hygiene protocols to ensure maximum protection against transmission of the virus.
Guests choosing to stay at Umkhumbi Lodge will have a secluded chalet in the bush, access to nature through our walking trails and total isolation if desired. No person to person contact is necessary. Please do not come if you believe you may have been exposed to the corona virus.

So if you need to get out of the house, but still want to maintain social distancing or to self-isolate, please consider staying with us. You will be helping to support our family and our staff and their families in this challenging time. 

Special rates offered for longer stays.


Existing bookings:

If you have a confirmed booking with us but cannot travel: please postpone rather than cancel your trip if at all possible. We are more than happy to move your payment to a future date. We cannot afford to reimburse you at this time.

Future bookings:

If you are booked with us for later in the year, the same applies. Please do not cancel your trip at this time. Should you be unable to travel due to continuing restrictions, we will move any deposits paid to a future date.


And finally – you can help!

If you are receiving a steady wage and you do not think you will be badly financially affected by the effects of this virus, why not plan your holidays for next year?! We ask just for a 10% deposit to secure your booking, and your payment will help us to continue to operate during these challenging times.
