Much more than just a bed for the night, Umkhumbi Lodge is a great choice when looking for accommodation in Hluhluwe. We will help you get the most out of your holiday! Our small safari lodge, situated not far from Hluhluwe Game Reserve in KZN, has 7 lovely bush chalets and a network of walking and cycling trails, and is a great base from which to explore the surrounding game reserves.
But you don’t need to go out for the day to have a safari experience. Umkhumbi Lodge is part of Kuleni Game Park which allows sightings of a great variety of wildlife on site. Walking around the game reserve you may come across zebras, giraffes and warthogs, antelopes such as wildebeest, nyala, impala duikers and even sunis. In the evenings Bushbabies areoften seen around the chalets.
Umkhumbi Lodge is popular for its stunning birdlife with regular sightings of Pink-throated Twinspots, Narina Trogon, Eastern Nicator and many more. The area is rich in wildlife, with nearby Hluhluwe Game Reserve for Big 5 safaris as well as the rich, varied ecosystems of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
If you are travelling with children, we offer a family-friendly safari lodge in KZN. Our 4 or 5-sleeper family chalets are surrounded by woodland and wildlife. A swimming pool, games lounge and children’s play area will keep them busy, and we have a great package of activities for children if you stay for two nights or more.
At Umkhumbi Lodge we have seven guest chalets, well-spaced from each other and surrounded by peaceful woodland in a private game reserve near Hluhluwe: Kuleni Game Park. The game reserve has much wildlife but does not have any of the scary animals on site (save for an occasional leopard..) and the lodge is unfenced, so the you can see animals from your window or whilst sitting on your veranda or in your outdoor dining area.
You can walk or cycle on the trails around the lodge and take your binoculars for some excellent birding! All of our accommodation is extremely comfortable and spacious. We have rooms suitable for couples and friends as well as 4 self-catering family chalets, 1 self-catering 2-sleeper cottage and 2 family chalets with a shared separate kitchen. Umkhumbi Lodge has a lovely tree-top bar for you to enjoy, as well as a games lounge, swimming pool, kids play area and free WiFi hotspot.
Large family? No problem. We know families don’t come in one-size fits all! We are happy to add beds or mattresses to the family chalets to sleep extra children. The largest family we have accommodated to date had two adults and six children so don’t be shy to ask. We have cots available for infants.
