OUR FACILITIES

Free WiFi Internet

Free WiFi internet is available as a hotspot at the lapa. You can sit comfortably in the bar lounge at work or play. The internet is uncapped so you can download and upload as much as you like, so you could download a movie to watch in the evenings for example. Unfortunately the rooms are well spread out and in a forested area so the wifi doesn’t reach to all of them.

Spa Service

We do not have a spa at Umkhumbi Lodge, however guests can enjoy a massage in their chalet from local masseuse Bianca Gerber. Bianca runs her beauty business from her home in Hluhluwe just 5 kms from your accommodation at Umkhumbi Lodge. If you pre-book a massage, she will bring her soothing hands to you! Or you can book to go to Bianca’s Beauty Salon or visit one of the other local spas. We are happy to arrange treatments for you.

Laundry Service

We offer a paid laundry service. Ask one of the team who’ll ensure your clothes come back fresh and clean.

Safe (for locking away valuables)

Remove worries by storing your stuff in our secure safe.

Credit Card Facility

We accept payments with Mastercard or Visa. You can pay by EFT bank transfer or cash if you prefer.

Extras

We have hairdryers, plug adaptors, charcoal and a small selection of toiletries if you need them. Please ask at reception.

A note on Electricity

As you may know, South Africa is suffering from an energy crisis. The state energy supplier, Eskom, is unable to supply the country with the required amount of power, so it has implemented a system of rolling blackouts which they call load-shedding. In practice this means that we are occasionally without electricity for 2 hours at a time, on a schedule which is given to us a day or two beforehand. Whilst this can be annoying, it is not usually a big problem. We provide battery lights so that you are not sitting in the dark, and we have gas camping stoves for use in your rooms. We run a generator during these hours so that the water supply is not interrupted. You are welcome to store any of your food supplies in our chest freezers, and if you need an oven you can cook up at the lodge kitchen. The best way to make the most of ‘load-shedding’ in the evening hours is to join up with the other guests at the lapa and have a braai (barbecue). It’s the South African way!
